Of the movies I’ve seen that have influenced me the most, there is the original Star Wars movies, and there is Hayao Miyazaki’s Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. The soundtrack is by Joe Hisaishi and seeing him conduct an orchestra playing themes from that movie is just sublime.
YouTube – Joe Hisaishi – Nausicaa of the Valley Wind (Part1 of 9). <- link is much higher quality video than embedded one below.
Want more? More from Nausicaa and a selection from Princess Mononoke.

Awesome! Where can I buy a DVD??
I know, right? We should search that one out. If either of us finds it we should post here!
I just saw the DVD for sale at the Ghibli Museum in Tokyo this past weekend. Didn’t buy it and now regret it. So now I’m looking for it online. Will post again if I find it.
In short, yes, it does exist!
Kiki – sorry, can’t “deliver” it for you! 🙂
PS More details: it was a 2 DVD set for about 5000Y (in the ballpark of $50) One DVD was 115mins and the other 38mins. I can’t read nor speak enough Japanese to ask detailed questions of the clerk. But one caveat is that the screen behind looked like *cut* footage and thus not the whole contiguous movie. (The clerk couldn’t help with that either.) Long enough though that its probably all the music. (Don’t think any wacky electronic music or sitar. 🙂 )
It’s at Otaku.com for $59 as I post this! 🙂
From the youtube videos I expected it to be scenes cut and edited which doesn’t bother me. I haven’t yet taken the plunge on this.
